Rachel Ertel

Rachel Ertel (born 1939 in Słonim) is professor emerita at the Université Paris-Diderot, an essayist and translator, and a specialist in Yiddish language and literature. Honorary president of the Maison de la culture yiddish – Bibliothèque Medem, she has edited and translated the works of Jacob Glatstein, Leïb Rochman, and Eli Chekhtman, as well as the journal Khaliastra. In 2020 the Académie française awarded her its Prix d'Académie for her life's work.
