Régine Robin
A Franco-Quebecois historian, sociologist, and novelist (1939–2021), Régine Robin — born Rivka Ajzersztejn in Paris — was professor of sociology at the Université du Québec à Montréal from 1982 onward. Her work centered on identity, collective memory, and Jewishness. Her novel La Québécoite (The Wanderer; Québec/Amérique, 1983; English trans. Alter Ego, 1997) became a landmark of écriture migrante [migrant writing]; she also wrote Le Roman mémoriel (The Memorial Novel) (Le Préambule, 1989), L'Immense fatigue des pierres (The Immense Fatigue of Stones) (XYZ, 1996), and Berlin chantiers (Berlin Worksites) (Stock, 2001).
