Rachid Aous

A Franco-Algerian economist by training, musicologist, and publisher (1944–2023), Rachid Aous was born in Koléa and specialized in the art and popular music of the Maghreb, particularly chaabi and what he called Maghrebo-Andalusian music — a term he proposed in order to better reflect the region's historical and cultural realities. Founder of the publishing houses El-Ouns and later Patriarches–Dâr al-Uns, he edited and published a number of books, including La Musique arabo-andalouse (Arab-Andalusian Music), co-written with Mahmoud Guettat (El-Ouns, 1999), and Musique d'Algérie (Music of Algeria) (Privat, 2002).
